French doors combine a wide glazed area with a central meeting point, making accurate measurement and complete coverage important. Safeguard manufactures each French door security grille to the opening rather than supplying a standard size. The retractable design protects the full aperture without permanently restricting access or the view.

French Door Security Grille Benefits

• Bespoke dimensions for hinged double-door openings.
• Continuous four-sided frame behind the doors.
• Retractable operation for unrestricted access when open.
• Compact stack can sit discreetly beside the opening.
• Lock options to suit domestic or commercial use.
• Durable white finish over rust-resistant primer.

UK-Manufactured French Door Protection

Safeguard has manufactured security grilles in Coventry since 1996. Direct manufacturing gives us control over the dimensions, finish and production process while providing clear pricing and UK-based support. Express delivery is available on qualifying orders.

How French Door Grilles Work

When closed, the grille extends across both door leaves and locks in position. When unlocked, it retracts to the selected stacking side so the French doors can be opened normally. The grille allows light and airflow through the opening while maintaining a physical barrier.

View French-door grille examples to see the open and closed appearance.

Security Bars or Retractable Grilles?

Fixed bars remain in place and can permanently interrupt access and views. A retractable security grille provides a strong metal barrier when closed but can be folded aside when protection is not required, making it better suited to frequently used French doors.

Ordering Your French Door Security Grille

Measure the complete opening using our guidance, select the lock configuration and order for self-installation, or ask about professional measurement and fitting in the Midlands. Send photographs if handles, sills or surrounding walls make the opening unusual.

Read our guide to security grille installation. For other openings, explore door security grilles or security for sliding patio doors.

The slim folded stack can sit neatly behind curtains. A white polyester coating over rust-resistant primer provides a clean, durable finish. Order for self-installation with guidance and fixings, or request professional surveying and fitting across the Midlands.

Secure Your Patio Doors Without Sacrificing Everyday Use

Large glazed doors provide light and convenient garden access, but they can also be an exposed entry point. A retractable patio door grille supplements the door locks with a visible physical barrier. You can secure the opening when the property is unattended or at night, then retract the grille for unrestricted access.

Why Choose a Patio Door Security Grille?

• Made to measure for wide sliding-door openings.
• Four-sided fixing for complete coverage of the aperture.
• Smooth retractable operation and compact stacking.
• Allows light and ventilation while the grille is closed.
• Durable, low-maintenance internal finish.
• Self-install and professional fitting routes available.

How Our Patio Door Grilles Operate

Close the grille across the opening and engage the selected lock when protection is required. When unlocked, the grille folds into a narrow stack at the side. The product is designed for repeated daily use without the bulk of an external roller-shutter box.

Easy Ordering Options

Use the measuring guide to record the opening, choose the lock option and place an order for self-installation. If the threshold, opening or fixing position is unusual, send photographs to our team before ordering. Customers in the Midlands can also request a full measuring and fitting quotation.

Window Grilles Buyer’s Guide

The right window grille should match the opening, how the room is used and the level of access required. Safeguard manufactures internal window security grilles to individual dimensions, so standard, wide and unusually shaped windows can be protected without relying on an off-the-shelf size.

Retractable window grilles differ from fixed bars because they can be unlocked and folded aside. That makes them suitable where you want protection at night or while a property is unoccupied, but an open window and clear view at other times.

Key Considerations

• Measurements: record the opening carefully and follow the measuring guide before ordering.
• Locking: select the lock type and position to suit the room and authorised users.
• Operation: allow room for the grille to fold to the side without obstructing handles or curtains.
• Installation: choose self-install security grilles or ask whether professional fitting is available in your Midlands postcode.
• Appearance: the slim white finish is designed to remain discreet inside domestic and commercial interiors.

Window Grille Advantages and Benefits

• A physical barrier behind the glass, supplementing locks, alarms and CCTV.
• Made-to-measure coverage for the complete opening.
• Retractable operation for access, ventilation and an unobstructed view when open.
• Strong, durable materials with a low-maintenance finish.
• Suitable for domestic windows, offices, shops and other commercial premises.

Retractable Security Grilles for Windows

Our retractable window security grilles move along a low-profile track and fold into a compact stack. Close and lock the grille when protection is required; retract it when you want the window fully accessible. This combination of security and day-to-day usability makes the system suitable for bedrooms, living spaces, offices and retail premises.

Window grille questions

How do I measure a window for a grille?

Use our window grille measuring guide for the proposed fixing position. Include photographs of the full opening, surrounding walls and handles if you are unsure which measurements are needed. Ask us to check the arrangement before ordering.

How much stacking space should I allow?

The folded grille needs space beside the opening. The space required depends on the opening and proposed configuration; do not assume one allowance suits every window. Send the opening dimensions and a photograph showing the available wall space so we can discuss a suitable layout.

Will the grille clear my handles, blinds and curtains?

Check projecting handles, window sills, blinds and curtain tracks as well as the glass area. Include a side-view photograph showing these obstructions with your enquiry. The fixing position should allow the window and grille to operate as intended.

Can I fit window grilles myself?

Self-installation is available. Read the installation guide and check the fixing surface and your ability to complete the work before ordering. If you prefer professional fitting, ask whether our Midlands service covers your postcode.

Are window grilles suitable for commercial premises?

Discuss the particular window, its use and any access or escape requirements before choosing a grille. For offices and similar business openings, see our commercial security grilles. A window grille should not be assumed suitable for every industrial opening.

The grille provides a visible physical barrier and retracts when not required. A white polyester coating over rust-resistant primer gives a clean internal finish suitable for domestic and commercial properties.

Why Bay Windows Need a Specialist Grille

A bay may require separate grille sections or a carefully planned arrangement across the complete opening. Accurate dimensions and clear photographs help establish the most practical fixing and stacking positions, particularly where curtains, handles or window boards affect the available space.

Advantages of Bay Window Security Grilles

• Made to measure for angled and multi-panel bay windows.
• Retractable design preserves light, views and access.
• Compact stacks can be positioned to suit the opening.
• Strong four-sided frames provide physical protection.
• Self-installation or professional fitting options.
• UK manufacture and direct support.

Self-Install or Professional Installation

Straightforward configurations can be ordered for self-installation using verified measurements. Photos are optional. Our team may ask for them to help with a more complicated bay window or fitting arrangement. Customers within the Midlands can request a professional survey and fitting quotation.

It has been widely advocated by crime prevention officers, that the only way to prevent a burglary is to physically strengthen potential entry points, such as windows and doors. Our security window / door grilles are specifically designed with appearance and safety in mind, without compromising on strength. They not only act as a deterrent, but also as a physical barrier. All our domestic window / door security grilles are fixed in all four corners to form a continuous frame – for added protection against forced entry. Due to the unobtrusive design, our expandable security grilles take up very small space when not in use, and can be hidden behind the curtains easily. They are also very simple to operate and slide smoothly with one finger. These sliding window / door security grilles can be unlocked in an instant in case of emergency situations. They even allow sleeping with the window open during summer nights, when locked in safely without having to fear any intrusion.

The top coat of all security grilles are finished with a white polyester coating over rust proof primer for maximum durability and deterrent visibility. No maintenance required.

Bespoke Security Grilles for Windows and Doors

One of the most effective ways to secure your home or business is by reinforcing entry points with high-quality security grilles. At Safeguard Security, every grille is custom-made to ensure a perfect fit, no matter the size or shape of your windows or doors.

We offer two convenient installation options. Choose our self-installation service, and your made-to-measure grilles will arrive with straightforward fitting instructions. Or, for a stress-free experience, opt for our professional fitting service carried out by our experienced in-house team.

Strength Without Compromising Style

Engineered for top-tier security, our grilles are fixed at all four corners to form a solid protective frame. Yet, despite their robust design, they are sleek, discreet, and retractable. This means they’re not just a visual deterrent — they also act as a strong physical barrier.

Their smooth sliding mechanism allows you to fold them away neatly when not in use, taking up minimal space and even hiding tidily behind curtains. Finished with a durable white polyester coating over rust-resistant primer, these grilles are built to last while maintaining a clean and modern appearance.

Advantages of Our Grille Systems

• Effortless to Use: Smooth sliding mechanisms make operation simple — many customers can open or close their grille with just one finger.
• Compact Design: Perfect for limited spaces, the grilles tuck away neatly when retracted, keeping your rooms light and open.
• Multi-Purpose: Designed for both homes and businesses, they fit a wide range of window and door styles.
• Stylish and Functional: High-security doesn’t have to look industrial — our grilles complement your property’s appearance.

Grilles vs. Shutters and Bars

• External Shutters – While they offer a strong visual deterrent, roller shutters are often associated with crime-prone areas and may be restricted by local planning rules. They’re also prone to vandalism like graffiti — making internal grilles a more desirable alternative.
• Internal Security Grilles – More discreet and aesthetically pleasing, internal grilles offer high security without compromising interior design. They are quick to open in an emergency and ideal for properties that value both form and function.
• Traditional Bars- Though effective as a barrier, fixed bars can obstruct escape routes and detract from your property’s look. They often lack the ease of access that modern retractable systems provide.

How Our Grilles Work

• Simple Mechanism: Slide open or closed effortlessly — no heavy lifting, no fuss.
• Tamper-Resistant Locks: Our integrated locking systems are engineered to resist picking, snapping, or forced entry.
• Quick Release for Emergencies: Designed for safety as well as security, our grilles can be swiftly unlocked when needed.
• Neat and Discreet: Even with robust construction, our grilles retract into a slim footprint that won’t intrude on your space or view.

Designed for You

• User-Friendly: Easy to open, close, and operate daily.
• No Maintenance: Unlike other systems, our grilles have no moving parts that require regular servicing.
• Custom Options: Our grilles are white, with left, right or centre opening. A multilock is available at an additional cost.
• Superior Security: With a no-cylinder locking system and reinforced overlap design, these grilles are built to withstand forced entry.
