School CCTV: FAQS
Q. is the digital recorder like a computer with a hard drive?
A. yes, it is very similar to a computer, and storage is on its own hard drive. You do not need any other computer systems to operate it.
Q. how do I control it?
A. the system can either be controlled by operation buttons on the actual unit, or you can plug it into your network, using a static IP and control/view all cameras from your own desktop PC.
Q. how many cameras can I have installed on it?
A. Digital CCTV records to a stand-alone hard drive; these vary in storage capacity depending on how many cameras you have and the recording resolution. Typically, hard drives have the capacity for taking 4, 8 or 16 cameras and multiples thereof and it is always best to leave space to add extra cameras at a later date.
Q. how many digital systems can I have in my school?
A. really, as many as your budget will allow. Rushcliffe School in West Bridgford, Nottingham, is in the lead so far with 5 Digital Systems and over 70 cameras both internally and externally fitted. They are reaping the rewards every day.
Q. can we fit cameras in toilets to prevent vandalism & smoking?
A. yes you can, but there are criteria that must be strictly adhered to. Only vandal resistant static cameras can be used and the only images available are of the main entry door and sink areas. With no visuals of cubicles, or urinals, and plenty of signs – warning of CCTV cameras installed. Please email us for more information and problem solving advice.
